Amsterdam

Ok well I’m not sure where to start, I’ve been here for something like twelve days now.  Its hard to keep track, between the adjustment of returning to school (my first week of class since early December), meeting completely new friends, and moving to a new city its been overwhelming.

My flight left Newark Airport on Jan 26 around 7pm.  I met up with some cool ass chicks in my program that also go to Penn State and we arrived in Amsterdam on Jan 27 at 8:15 am.  We had a few days of orientation to start and a trip to a fake castle in Utricht and then basically left on our own to start class and learn our way around the city.

My biggest problem so far is that my computer is a complete p.o.s. and refuses to connect to the internet in our apartments (provided via ethernet cords).  I haven’t found any good wi-fi spots yet so I’ve only used the internet for like fifteen minutes a day the past two weeks.  Its been refreshing but at the same time really frustrating.  Today I hit the public library, which is awesome, to spend a few hours doing home work and using the internet.  Now I’m back at homebase Funenpark kickin it upstairs with my boy Karl and some buds and writin this post on Cams computer.  I’ll spend the next few hours relaxing and doing some more homework for tomorrow morning before hitting a bar around midnight to watch the Super Bowl.  Just to spite all the Pittsburgh fans back in State College I’ll be rooting for the Packers.  The game won’t end until about 5am here and I’ll have a few hours to chill before a 9am-12 class, followed by a meeting, and a 3-6 class.  But, I’m finally in Amsterdam so I won’t complain because life is good.  Next post will have pictures,  some quality cultural insight and a video of some dude tearin it up by Dam Square on a didgeridoo.
Peace

Heelllllllllooooooo

Here we go!  My inaugural penn state geoblog post!  Coming to you from 134 Cedar Building computer lab, State College, Pennsylvania.  Lets see, we’ll start with a quick bio.  My name is Dylan Schubert, I’m a junior at Penn State’s Smeal College of Business.  As of now I’m on track to graduate in May 2012 with a BS in Marketing, and hopefully minors in both International Business & Psychology.  Andddd, if you don’t know I will be spending the next few months of my life blogging to anyone bored enough to read from Amsterdam, Netherlands.  My spring semester at the Universiteit van Amsterdam begins January 26th, and the next 50 days can’t go by fast enough.  I will be spending the upcoming week and a half here in State College finishing up my Fall semester classes and acing my finals (with some luck).  Then I will spend the remainder of my pre-departure time at home with my family (in Reading, Pennsylvania) celebrating the holidays and preparing for my trip.

A few hours ago I completed some forms bringing me closer to officially scheduling my classes at UvA (Universiteit van Amsterdam), and once I find out my official schedule (which apparently may not be until late January) I will be sure to post it to my brand new blog!   I anticipate completing another entry in a few weeks when I get closer to my departure date with some insight into how packing and preparations are coming along.  And once I arrive in the beautiful Dutch capital of Amsterdam prepare to be bombarded with pictures, videos, and some quality cultural insight from yours truly!  Until then I’ll take my first stab at some Dutch.

Doei!,
Dylan Schubert
