Before the Big Move

Four weeks, I’m leaving the United States in four weeks…

I’m Brianna, but most people simply call me Bri; and in just four short weeks I will be boarding a plane to Alcal de Henares, Spain a town outside of Madrid.
I honestly can’t believe it, because how could I possibly be lucky enough to get to spend a semester studying a new language and culture? It’s true though, and I am at times so excited that I want to be there right now, and at other times so nervous that I want to hide under my covers. I think know that I’m not alone in this regard, and that definitely makes me feel more at ease.220px-Alcala_de_henares_plaza_cervantes.JPGIt’s really a beautiful town, this is a picture of the Plaza de Cervantes. Alcal is the birthplace of Miguel Cervantes, most well-known for his novel Don Quixote. While I study at the CIEE Instituto, I will be living with a Hispanic family. This may be what I am most excited about, I don’t think there is a better way to discover a new lifestyle then by completely immersing yourself in it. Family is very important to me, and what could be better than having another family away from home?

And still, there are so many things I will miss from home…

THON

True, it has been a difficult semester for us here; but I feel that I have only grown closer to the friends and community that I surround myself with here. It certainly won’t be easy to leave, but I’m sure that I will be saying the same thing when I am reaching the end of my stay in Spain. I’m going to learn so much, I’m going to experience the world like I never have before. I can’t wait…okay maybe I can for a little. For now, though, I’ll just keep repeating my new mantra;

“Don’t freak out, just don’t freak out…”
