Long walks back in time, Second Week

This is what I saved from the second week abroad…

On Thursday (January 17), we left bright and early to Tarragona, another city of this beautiful country. It was the earliest I had been awake since I’ve arrived so no, I did not appreciate this trip one bit at first. Since I’ve gotten here, the way I eat, the amount I walk and the way I speak has changed but one thing hasn’t… the severity of car sickness on a darn bus.

Any who, when we arrived we got a tour of the ancient city with so much architectural history. Nothing like America, that’s for sure. We saw the Amphitheater, which was used for entertainment and the roman circus, used for horse racing. It was so interesting that I even took notes… I have never been so intrigued by a long 2 hour tour with no water, food or breaks. (This explains the lazy American trait).

(That is the amphitheater)

We were then taken to a monastery called Santes Creus, or Santa Cruz. I think you can imagine how the tour was just from hearing the word “monastery.” Only interesting thing I found out was that monks were only allowed to speak in this open room that purposely echoed and was cold so that they won’t whisper secrets nor spend too much time there. Honestly, the cold wouldn’t have stopped me. All those years and time without talking… I don’t understand. Also, the king was buried in this beautiful tub which was unfortunately too short for him. The tub was 50 meters long while he was 80 meters long. How did they fit him in there you ask? Well… *cringing at the moment* they snapped his ankles and basically broke them and folded his feet under his legs. Isn’t that just lovely? I am glad I am only 5’1– that wouldn’t be a problem.

What a way to end the tour huh?

I finally had this amazing dessert… churros (spanish doughnut) with hot chocolate. But not just any hot chocolate. (I am sorry Nestle, Nesquick and Swiss Miss). This is the best hot chocolate I have ever had. So creamy but extremely thick but incredibly chocolatey all at the same time (My dad will not appreciate this…he would probably predict the amount of pimples I will get next month because of this.) They serve you about 4 churros and a cup of hot chocolate and you dip the churros inside. HEAVEN ON A PLATE.

First week in Barcelona

Ok so, I will now post all my delayed posts. For some reason, this website always kicks me out of my blog and never allows me to post anything, which is rather annoying. So, I created my posts and saved them somewhere else for when this decided to act right. So here we go…let’s take a trip back to the first week of January.

Hola Amigos!

I am writing to you from the beautiful city of BARCELONA!! How exciting right?

I arrived on Tuesday, January 7th after a long 7 hour delayed flight from New York on Monday night.

So far, I have gone to about four orientations, a mini tour of Plaza Catalunya, which is like a main street with lots of stores and stuff and gone out once with my roommate and her friends. But most importantly, I have yet accustomed to the time difference because I keep sleeping during the day and up all night. That flight got me so jet lagged that now I have wasted an entire first welcoming week into Barca…on my bed with my head on the pillow catching some Zzz’s.

Crazy right? Yeah I know, but I still have 15 more weeks to go and I am in no rush at all.

I am  looking forward to all the great nights, tours, sightseeing and adventures that I will be having this semester.

Technical difficulties

Finally! This blog site has been kicking me out for the past few weeks and when it finally let me in, I didn’t have the Education Abroad Geoblog tab so I couldn’t post my blogs. I apologize for the delay but I will definitely make up for the weeks that I have missed. Luckily, I saved my blogs in a word document so I will definitely post them throughout the day.

Delayed blog, delayed flight

Hi Guys! My name is Amy Ross. I am a junior majoring in Print Journalism. I am currently studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain. I apologize for not posting this before. I lost the email with the training video and I finally found it.

However, my feelings prior to Barcelona are still clear. I left everything last minute of course, and began packing the day before. I left on Monday, January 6…Happy Three Kings Day to me! I tried to see all my friends and family before I left but that was impossible. here were mixed feelings and everything was just so bitter sweet. I have not felt felt this way since leaving New York to study at Penn State, but even that was easier to handle…I mean, my parents were just a phone call away.

I cannot wait to see what Barcelona has in store for me and I am ready for class, travel, shop and eat lots of Spanish dishes!!!

Hope you all have a great time abroad!
