Hi there! This is Rich Samartino, and this is the very first post in my Penn State GeoBlog, which will chronicle my experiences as I study abroad in Maastricht, Netherlands this fall.
A little about me – I will be starting my senior year in the fall, and I plan on graduating next spring with a degree in Information Sciences & Technology. I’m going to study at Maastricht University in the fall. Maastricht is a city in southern Netherlands very close to Belgium and Germany. The University seems like it has a great program for international students, so I’m really excited to meet people from all over the world.
While abroad, I’m planning on doing research for my honors thesis. I’m researching why the Dutch social networking website Hyves is more popular than Facebook in the Netherlands. I’m hoping to network with Dutch students and professors to finish my research, so hopefully I’ll have some interesting updates from my efforts.
I’m also planning on traveling extensively while in Europe, so I’ll be sure to post pictures and stories from my excursions. I leave the U.S. in late August, so be sure to check back then for more posts!

I enjoyed reading this. There are bits I agree witha and bits that I don’t, it’s always interesting to read what people think about making/showing art etc.I won’t write any more, as a rule of thumb I like my posts to be shorter than Donald’s!
I definitely started building my own home business and I haven’t looked back. It really feels great, especially since my company let go a lot of people.
