About

Welcome to the Education Abroad GeoBlog

The Education Abroad GeoBlog is an exciting way for students to take their time abroad to the next level. Through the GeoBlog students can:

  • Share and chronicle their experiences abroad with the rest of the Penn State community, family, and friends
  • Explore experiences abroad through the lens of Global Citizenship
  • Connect with other students around the globe for conversation and deeper understanding

What is a GeoBlog?

This website represents a collection of Penn State students who are GeoBlogging while participating on an approved Penn State Education Abroad program.  A GeoBlog is similar to a standard blog with the addition of adding geospatial information to each post.  The inclusion of geospatial data contextualizes and situates information in the physical world. The location can be as general as Berlin, Germany, or as specific as Neuschwanstein Castle, 87645 Schwangau, Germany.

Each time a student writes an entry a pin will appear on the Education Abroad GeoBlog Map.  We intend for the GeoBlog to evolve into an online community where Penn State students studying abroad can interact and share their experiences. Selecting any pin on the map will provide an excerpt of, and link to, the full post. Additionally, all students will have a web page with individual maps representing their time abroad.

Visitors to the GeoBlog will quickly be able to see where Penn State students have traveled, and read about their experiences.

This initiative leverages the blogging service at Penn State via sites.psu.edu and was made possible by the collaboration between Education Technology Services and the University Office of Global Programs.
